Social activities

Apart from our more serious charitable and service objectives, one of the stated aims of Rotary is furthering good fellowship.  Partners, children and friends of Rotarians are always welcome at our social activities.

Often these involve other Clubs too, including the twin club of Abingdon Vesper, the Rotary Club of Breda Mark and Aa in the Netherlands. At the start of September 2005, Vesper hosted a party of some 30 Rotarians and family from RC Breda.

To read a short account of this visit click here.

In previous years Vesper’s social activities have covered such events as:

Abingdon Vesper Christmas Party

The Christmas Party is one of those occasions where the Club forsakes its normal venue and this year held its party in the White Hart, Dorchester.

It was as much fun as ever!

  Dog racing

Dorchester Abbey

The greyhound racing proved very popular and was the first  “flutter” for many.

An excellent guided tour around the town and abbey gave us a valuable insight into the history on our doorstep.

The Oxford Union

We were honoured to be guests at a debate and dinner at the Union.

The Oxford Botanic Gardens

A trip to the gardens was one of the places visited during the weekend visit of our friends from Breda.

Striding out on the Ridgeway

We take full advantage of the local countryside and have had several walks on various stretches of the Ridgeway in recent years.  The most recent was just after Christmas.

Sipping champagne at the Proms

A party of music (and champagne) lovers took a coach to the “Proms In the Park” and hugely enjoyed it!
