Visit of The Rotary Club of Breda (Netherlands) |
||
At the start of September 2005, Vesper hosted a party of some 30 Rotarians and family from our twin club, RC Breda Mark and Aa in the Netherlands. Staying with club members, our guests enjoyed a full weekend of activities including a drinks party on the Friday night and guided walks round the Oxford colleges and historical Abingdon. A few photographs taken from the tour around the Oxford colleges are shown below. (Click on a picture to see a larger version) After lunch, the more adventurous enjoyed an afternoon punting on the Isis, whilst others elected a more sedate wander round the Oxford shops. The highlight of the weekend was a typical English barndance at Southmoor Village Hall, culminating in a hard fought competitive Morris dance between the two clubs. Despite the best efforts of the callers, Vesper superior dosey-doing came out on top! The wining and dining finished with lunch at the Four Pillars on the Sunday with a presentation on the work Vesper is doing in Africa, exploring ways in which the two clubs can continue to work together in the future, and speeches from both club presidents, Louise Thomas and Jan Boot. |
