This was held in September 2004, at a number of participating pubs in the Abingdon area. The final sponsorship money raised a total of £2,061.00. Despite the fact that there were rather fewer participating teams this year, the total raised exceeds the 2003 figure.
One third of the total sum raised will go to the locally based charity "Against Breast Cancer", one third towards improving facilities for patients at Abingdon Community Hospital, and one third will be used by the Rotary Club to support its many charitable activities over the year.
Not only is the Marathon a very successful fundraising event; it is also a great fun event, as anyone visiting a participating pub on the evening of the contest will tell you.
Our pictures attempt to capture something of the 'feel' at just one of the participating pubs - the Red Lion in Drayton. They didn't have the highest scoring individual, nor the highest scoring team, but both the teams they entered had a great deal of fun.

But in recording the pleasurable side, let us also remember the hard work side of this event. It raises money for very worthwhile causes simply because all the participants make a huge effort to get sponsorship, and after the event to collect the sponsorship money from those who pledged it. If you have ever done it, you will know that this can be quite hard work! Rotary recognizes this and thanks all participants most sincerely for all their efforts.
