Ladies Darts Marathon
September/October 2010
The Rotary Club of Abingdon Vesper is organising a Ladies Darts Marathon during September and October 2010. Teams of 6 will throw non stop for 2 hours to see which team can amass the highest score. The ladies will be asked to seek sponsorship for their efforts and teams will be encouraged to organise a raffle or some other means to raise additional funds for the charities on the night.
Two thirds of the money they raise will be for the Against Breast Cancer Charity. The balance will be donated to The Rotary Club of Abingdon Vespers Charity account, which is used to support local, national and international needy causes and people. In the past year we have done work in the community hospital, taken disadvantaged groups out for day trips on a barge, helped local youth groups, given aid to street children in Kenya, helped schools and communities in Uganda improve their lives by organising building work, providing equipment and low cost loans to fund business ventures. Abingdon Vesper recently organised the tremendously successful Dragon Boat Racing Day on the River Thames in Abingdon, raising thousands of pounds for charity.
ShelterBox Challenges
11th and 12th September 2010
On the 11th and 12th of September two teams from Abingdon Vesper will head off in two different directions. One team will be travelling to Dartmoor to take part in the ShelterBox Dartmoor Challenge. The second team will be heading for the Wye Valley to take part in an Alternative Challenge.
Both teams will be raising funds for ShelterBox.
The Dartmoor Challenge is, as the title suggests, a 30 mile course over Dartmoor. Each team will be made up of a contingent of four members and will be expected to cover the course over two days carrying a ShelterBox. The team will be led by Chris LeFerve; Chris is now a veteran Dartmoor Challenger as this will be his third year.
The Alternative Challenge was the result of insufficient team members to make the contingent of the requisite four to cover the Dartmoor Challenge. Undeterred by having only two members, Diane Clarke and Sulwen Vaughan decided that an alternative location was to be found and the Wye Valley was chosen. Like the main event in Dartmoor the course will cover 30 miles and it will be completed in two days.
If you feel that you are able to support ShelterBox we would be delighted to hear from you.
