David Wilde, President 2007-8

I am David Wilde. As the current President of Abingdon Vesper Rotary Club I am pleased to welcome you to our Website. I hope you will enjoy your visit and find the site to be user friendly and informative. It will give you a taste of the range of Service and Fundraising Activity undertaken by Rotary as represented by the two Abingdon Clubs, both in the Abingdon area and in the global community.

All Rotary Clubs are active in supporting their local community in different ways, and many are also involved in International Projects to benefit people in those parts of the world where they are less able to help themselves. Abingdon Vesper is no exception. As you investigate what this site has to offer, you will find that, in serving others, Rotarians derive an enormous sense of achievement and they also have great fun.

All modern Rotary Clubs are dual gender and in June 1990 Abingdon Vesper became one of the first Clubs to be Chartered as a true dual gender organisation in the United Kingdom. About one third of our membership consists of female Rotarians. Our ages range from ‘in the 30s‘ to the ‘over 60s’ and we come from a wide range of professional and business backgrounds.

We meet on Tuesday evenings at the Four Pillars Hotel in Abingdon – 7.30 for 8.00pm. If you think you might be interested in attending a meeting – under no obligation, of course – you would be very welcome.

You can email me, giving at least two days notice please, at

or our Senior Vice President Richard Benton at

Alternatively, go to the “Interested?“ page and one of our members will contact you.

Similarly, if you know of an organisation or project which might benefit from our help, please use the same contact emails
