Norma Martin, President 2003-04 |
As the current Club President, I want to thank you for visiting our page. Rotary in Abingdon is extremely active, and I hope you will visit other pages on this website to find out a little more about what we are doing to support both the local community and some very needy overseas communities. We are also active in promoting international friendship and understanding. All Rotary Clubs are open to both men and women, but not all achieve a mixed membership in practice. Our club does and benefits greatly from this balance. We work hard to meet our charitable objectives, but we are a very relaxed and sociable club. Visiting Rotarians are asked to contact the Club Secretary, John May - telephone 01635 578 423, email giving at least 48 hours’ notice of their intention to attend. Longer notice is appreciated if there is a party intending to visit. Non-Rotarians may attend meetings as guests of members; again, adequate notice is requested so that catering arrangements can be made. Others who would like to meet us to learn more about our club and its activities, please click here.

In the last 12 months we have enabled around £35,000 to be raised and donated to a wide range of charities including: Abingdon Community Hospital Against Breast Cancer Oxford Night Shelter St John Ambulance (Abingdon Division) The Stroke Association as well as contributing to Rotary International Foundation, which funds charitable work world-wide with particular emphasis on third world countries. We also provide 'hands on' support for our local community, through such means as helping the local Stroke Club by providing transport for members to attend their meetings; and providing great days out for handicapped people of all ages facing wide-ranging difficulties, through our barge trips
